Active Directory

Available To

All users and networked resources on campus are managed via Active Directory (AD).

Service Overview

Microsoft's Active Directory provides the means of managing authentication and access control to campus resources (i.e., employees working in particular departments can print to specific printers).

Service Details

The benefits and features of AD include:

  • Authentication to resources such as individual and lab computers can be offered by campus ID and BeachID password, eliminating the need to create and maintain local accounts.
  • Security groups can be created to automatically maintain groups to control access to resources, such as computers and file shares.
  • Organizational Unit (OU) administrators can use AD to automatically control access to resources.
  • Security groups include those based on department affiliation, campus roles, academic courses, etc.
  • Security group memberships are updated daily as the status of employees and students change throughout the day.
