Accessing eduroam Wireless on Android and Chromebook Devices

This document is only recommended if you frequently travel and visit other campuses participating in the eduroam WiFi service.

Please note the following:

  • To connect to eduroam, you must have a valid campus email address along with your BeachID password. If you have not activated your BeachID password, visit https://beachid.csulb.edu/.
  • Also note that you will need to update your password on your mobile device wifi settings whenever you update your BeachID password.

The following steps are to setup your Android device for the first time.

NOTE: Android mobile devices vary widely depending on the many models and operating system versions that are available. These instructions may not match exact steps for your device; however, the intention is for these basic instructions to provide enough information to help configure most devices. Once these steps are completed, your device should remember the settings the next time you are near a a wireless access point (AP); however, in some instances you may have to manually disconnect then reconnect your wireless connection to regain the connection.

  1. Access your "Settings" menu
  2. Select "Wireless & networks"
  3. Select Wi-Fi settings or Wi-Fi networks
  4. Check to see if your Wi-Fi connection is turned on indicated by a green check mark.
  5. Check to see what Wi-Fi networks are available to you. If you are near an eduroam wireless access point, "eduroam" should appear in the list of Wi-Fi networks recognized by your phone or tablet
  6. Select "eduroam"
  7. Enter required information (may require scrolling to see these specific fields) and tap Connect when done:
    • EAP method = select PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication = select MSCHAPv2
    • Identity = campus email address (for example: Prospector.Pete@csulb.edu)
    • Password = enter your BeachID password

Please note – you can ignore the "Anonymous Identity" (open text field) configuration field.
