Overview

The Division of IT maintains a CSULB Azure tenant for academic and administrative use-cases.

Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform and infrastructure for building, deploying, and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed data centers. It provides both Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) service and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.

Requirements and Considerations

  • Must be a current CSULB employee
  • Must provide a funding source when requesting services from DoIT
  • Cost is based on data usage, and buying units/credits in advance is recommended.  Any direct costs incurred by a CSULB customer department/program will be the responsibility of the customer department/program.

For a quote or additional information, submit a ticket with Division of IT.  Please provide the following details in your request:

  • Department/business unit requesting the service
  • Description of the use-case
  • An estimate of annual data usage (see Azure Pricing Calculator)

CSULB Roles and Responsibilities

Division of IT - Service Management & Operations (SMO)

  • Receive and review initial customer requests for Azure services from customers.
  • Coordinate ticket escalation upon service approval and onboarding activities.
  • Coordinate Azure subscription payments between customer and DoIT Finance operations.

Division of IT- Enterprise Services Group (ESG)

  • All permissions pertaining to access into the Azure environment will be managed by ESG. All permissions/access changes will need to be made by ticket request to ITS.
  • Will provide limited troubleshooting assistance with Azure resources and facilitate opening Microsoft support requests if necessary.
  • Provide weekly email reporting on Azure charges for cost management.

Division of IT – Network Services Group (NSG)

  • Azure networking and network access to on-prem resources is solely managed by NSG. All networking changes will need to be made by ticket request to ITS.

Customer

  • Resource usage for cost estimation must be done in advance to support the purchase of advanced Azure credits.
  • Technical administration of all resources created in the Azure subscription.
  • Troubleshoot issues thoroughly before contacting ITS for additional assistance. 
  • Manage resource utilization for cost management.
