Service Overview

The Division of IT (DoIT) centrally manages the university's onsite file share service, which includes a production copy of all files, an on-site backup, and an off-site backup.  All employees have access to their own personal "home folder" of up to 2 GB of default space, which can be increased.  Employees may also be given access to existing department file shares.

Service Details

The following requests can be made:

  • Create a new department file share
  • Add or remove a user's access to a folder within a file share
  • Add or remove a folder from the top level of an existing file share
  • Restore a file or file folder within the file share in the event of accidental deletion
  • Increase storage limit, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Note:  Some requests above may require a requesting department's manager approval.

Backup and Recovery

File share contents are backed up nightly.  Previous versions of files and folders from 7 am and 12 noon will also generally (but not guaranteed to) be available for users to retrieve via self-service
