Beginning October 24, 2022, you can stop using a password and still sign in securely with your Microsoft Authenticator. Complete the steps below to enable "passwordless" phone sign-in.
Requirements
- You must have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your mobile device.
- You must use your phone's screen lock feature to use this.
Set Up Passwordless Phone Sign-in for Android
- Open your Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Select your account name. Be sure it is the work/school account if you have more than one listed.
- Select Set up phone sign-in (Sign in without a password)
- At the Set up phone sign-in screen, Select Device registration (Your IT department requires you to register your device, so it can be trusted to access organizational resources.) Set screen lock must be checked. A device PIN, password, fingerprint, or patter is required. Select the Continue button.
- Enter your password. Sign in.
- Approve sign-in.
- Help us keep your device secure. Register your device to continue. Select the Register button.
- On the Account added screen, you will see your listed sign-in methods you can use from this device, which may vary from person to person. Option may include Phone sign-in (sign in without a password), Two-step verification (notification approvals), and two-step verification (one-time password codes). Select the Finish button.
Set Up Passwordless Phone Sign-in for iPhone
- Open your Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Select your account name. Be sure it is the work/school account if you have more than one listed.
- Select Enable phone sign-in (Sign in without a password)
- At the Enable phone sign-in screen, Select Device registration (Your IT department requires you to register your device, so it can be trusted to access organizational resources.) Set screen lock must be checked. A device PIN, password, fingerprint, facial recognition, or patter is required. Select the Continue button.
- Help us keep your device secure. Register your device to continue. Select the Register button.
- Account added screen. You can now use the following sign-in methods from this device: Phone sign-in (sign in without a password), Two-step verification (notification approvals), and two-step verification (one-time password codes). Finish button.
Using Passwordless Phone Sign-in for the First Time
- Visit sso.csulb.edu and on the Sign in screen, enter your email address.
- When you get the Enter password screen, select Use an app instead.
- You will then be presented with an Approve sign screen instructing you to open your Authenticator app, and enter the number shown to sign in.
- After entering the provided number, you must confirm by selecting Approve.
- You will be logged in to your account.
