How to Find Your Computer's Name

Your computer name identifies it on a network. Knowing your computer's name is helpful information, such as for setting up a Remote Desktop Connection.

Find your computer name in Windows 10

  1. Open the Control Panel.  (Can search for "control panel" in you Windows task bar.)

  2. Click System and Security > System.

    On the View basic information about your computer page, see the Full computer name under the section Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings.

Find your computer name in Windows 8

  1. Press the Windows logo key + X to see a list of commands and options.

  2. Click System.

    The computer name appears under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings.

Find your computer name on a Mac

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Sharing.

    The computer name appears at the top of the window.
