How to Email Original Emails as Attachments

There are three different variations for the Outlook client and one way in Office 365 on how to add an attachment of an original email to another email.

Methods include those for:

Outlook Client on a Windows PC

Option 1

  1. With your mouse, hover your cursor over the original email you wish to send to another email recipient and right click.
  2. A list of options will appear.  Select Copy.

  1. Once it is copied, create a new email and type in the recipient address and subject (or open an existing email you wish to reply to).
  2. In the email text box, right click and click on Paste with the clipboard option.

  1. The original email copied that will be sent to a recipient will now show up as an attachment.

Option 2

  1. In Outlook desktop application, click and drag the original email out from your Outlook desktop application and onto your home desktop screen.

  1. Create a new email with the recipient address and subject (or open an existing email you wish to reply to).
  2. Click and drag the email file/shortcut to the email text box.
  3. The original email copied that will be sent to a recipient will now show up as an attachment.

Option 3

  1. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 in Option 2.
  2. Under the Message tab, click on Attach File>Browse This PC.

  1. An Insert File Box will appear, click on Desktop on the left panel and click on the original email file, click Insert.

  1. The original email copied that will be sent to a recipient will now show up as an attachment.

Outlook in Office 365 Online (also known as OWA)

  1. Open your Outlook email on a web browser though CSULB Single Sign-On.
  2. Once in your Outlook mailbox, click on the +New tab from the right of the "Search Mail and People" section to create a new email (or reply to an existing email and skip step 3 below).

  1. On the right side, an email box will appear, type in the the recipient address and subject.
  2. In the Inbox column where your emails appear, search for the original email you wish to send as an attachment and drag it into the new email box.

  1. The original email copied that will be sent to a recipient will now show up as an attachment.

Outlook on a Mac

  1. With your mouse, hover your cursor over the original email you wish to send to another email recipient and right-click (to perform right-click on Mac, hold the ‘control’ key and click your mouse).

  3. A new email window will appear. Type in the recipient’s address and subject. screenshot of sample of new email message with attachment
  4. In the email text box, you can include your message to accompany the attachment.
  5. Click Send to send the email with the attachment.

MacMail

  1. With your mouse, right click the email you wish to send as an attachment and select Forward as Attachment. screenshot in Mac Mail showing the selection to forward as attachment
