Outlook/Office 365 – Update Global Address Book

In Office 365, there will be changes within the main Global Address Book (GAL). Outlook 2010 and 2013/2016 may not be automatically receiving updates while your computer is running. If this occurs, you may discover non-existent and/or incorrect entries that may be missing. These discrepancies may be fixed by synchronizing Outlook (cached) address book with the Global Address book. A single occurrence of mail being sent back to the sender may be fixed as well.

Below are the following steps to update your Global Address Book.

Note: You may need to turn off Cached Exchange Mode for GAL entries to show up correctly. For assistance, please visit the documents to turn on or off Cached Exchange Mode for the following models: Outlook 2010, and Outlook 2013 and 2016.

For Windows

Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 and 2016

(images may vary depending on device being used)

  1. Click File tab, click on Account Settings, then click Download Address Book.
  2. In the Offline Address Book dialog box, click on the Download changes since last Send/Receive check box if it has not been checked.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Outlook Global Address Book is now up-to-date.

For Mac

Outlook 2011 and 2016

Outlook 2011 and 2016 does not use Exchanged Cached mode and connects to the Global Address Book (GAL) via LDAP connection. Each time Send/Receive is pressed, your global address book will be updated.
