CSULB Desktop Base Software Standards

Overview

The following software standards are intended to be a consistent baseline for all university-owned, employee Windows and Macintosh computers.  College and department approved applications can be added to this base standard as appropriate. These standards assumes versions are updated to the latest patched level.

Minimum Standards (updated 12/18/2023)

Windows 

Minimum Software Standards Comments
Windows 10 (legacy machines), Windows 11 (all new devices) 64 preferred. Excludes Home version. General availability patch levels. 
Adobe Acrobat DC PDF reader
Adobe Creative Cloud  
Microsoft Edge Meets CMS Certifications
Office (Microsoft) 365 64 bit preferred
Bitlocker All devices will maintain encryption software
Microsoft Defender Anti-Virus University managed
SCCM/EndPoint Agent All University-owned devices will be managed
Zoom  
Teams  
Global Protect Virtual Private Network (VPN) For devices that may be used off-campus
OneDrive Sync enabled and profile folders mapped
*Chrome/FireFox available through Company Portal Approved CMS versions only

MacOS (updated 12/18/2023)

FileVault encryption  All laptops will maintain encryption software
Microsoft Defender Anti-Virus University managed
Apple School Manager (ASM) / JAMF All University-owned devices will be managed
Zoom

Global Protect Virtual Private Network (VPN) For devices that may be used off-campus
OneDrive Sync enabled and profile folders mapped
