clerk chat

Clerk Chat is CSULB's SMS Texting service that is integrated within the MS Teams application.

Requirements

  • Approval by your department or college designated Manager/Approver is required before this service is enabled.  An automated approval process workflow is initiated upon ticket submission, where an email notification is sent to your manager/approver for review and approval. Begin the request process by submitting a Telephone Service request.
  • Businesses are required to comply with new federal requirements for registering our text messaging services. The Division of IT manages this registration process for the university and departments using this service.

Cost

  • Department's are responsible for paying the $8/month per user carrier cost.  This cost is annualized and included in the annual IT Bundle chargeback process immediately following census each year.

Installation

Once Clerk Chat is enabled on your Teams Phone account, users must install the Clerk SMS app within Teams.

  1. Install the "Clerk Chat" app within their Teams app.
  2. Follow prompts and accept the permissions request to continue.
  3. If already logged in to your CSULB Teams account, you won’t need to log in to complete install.
  4. After "Clerk SMS" is installed on your Teams' left navigation pane, right-click on it and select "Pin" so it keeps the app on your left-navigation pane.

Note:  Please note that new users may see a notice in Teams after installing Clerk SMS indicating the need to complete 10DLC registration.  This is being handled by Division of IT, so users can ignore the message.

To ensure your business SMS is not blocked as spam by carriers, contact your admin to complete 10DLC registration by Jan 31st.

Support

Please report Clerk Chat issues and requests to Telecom by submitting a Telephone Service request.

Please note that the Clerk Chat service is provided through the university's Teams Phone carrier, so features and capabilities may differ from what's on the Clerk Chat website:
