Setting Up Location Data in Teams for Non-CSULB Managed Computers

The following instructions are intended for computers that are non-CSULB managed. Specifically, these would be non-Intune/Jamf managed, hard-wired desktops.  These instructions show a user, with admin privileges to the device, how to enable a couple items to get Location Data in Microsoft Teams.

Below are step-by-step instructions for enabling the "Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver" and Location Services on both Windows 10, Windows 11, and Mac computers. 

Windows

Enabling Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver (Windows 10 and 11)

Open Control Panel

Press Win + X and select "Control Panel." 

Navigate to Network and Sharing Center

Click on "Network and Internet." 

Select "Network and Sharing Center." 

Change Adapter Settings

Click on "Change adapter settings" in the left sidebar. 

Right-click on Your Network Adapter

Locate your active network adapter (usually labeled "Ethernet" or "Wi-Fi"). 

Right-click on it and choose "Properties." 

Enable Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver

In the properties window, scroll down and find "Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver." 

Check the box next to it to enable the protocol. 

Click "OK" to save the changes. 

Enabling Location Services (Windows 10 and 11): 

Open Settings

Press Win + I to open the Settings app. 

Go to Privacy Settings

Click on "Privacy." 

Select Location

In the left sidebar, click on "Location." 

Turn On Location Services

Toggle the switch under "Location" to the "On" position. 

Mac

The following instructions are provided based on Sonoma 14.1 (23B74).

Enabling Location Services (Mac)

Go to System Settings > Privacy and Security > Location Services > Microsoft Teams (set the toggle to on)
