Making and Receiving Teams Calls on Desktop and Mobile

Prerequisites and Recommendations

For the best experience with Teams calling, you'll need the following:

  • Devices
  • Teams application:
    • Recommended: Use Teams application installed on your computer or mobile device, instead of using Teams through a web browser.
    • On shared devices like laptops and desktop computers, you can use the Office 365 version of the Teams app, but some features are limited.
    • Contact your college or business unit technology coordinator for more information about the recommended set up for your computing device(s).
  • For international calling
    • International calls can be made through Teams as long as the caller has an appropriate international calling plan and if you are attempting to call certain countries.
    • By default, CSULB calling plans are only set to national calling.  Please submit a Telephone Service work order to add international access if this service is required for your work.  This is subject to additional monthly fees and will require ASM approval.

Dialing a Phone Number

CSULB Calling

  • For calling CSULB contacts, the easiest method is to use the "Type a name or number" search field. Typing a colleagues name will populate their contact info to select and make a call. Teams Call showing the Calling App on the left navigation and the "type a name or number" field
  • Note: Five-digit dialing (commonly used for dialing a CSULB extension, x5-####) is no longer possible.

Outbound Domestic/National Calls

  • +[country code] [subscriber number with area code/national destination code]
    • For example: +15629851111 or +1 562-985-1111 or +1 (562) 985-1111
    • Note: You do not need to dial the +
  • Three-digit dialing (e.g., 411, 511) is possible. Just dial the number and conduct the call.
  • Ten-digit calls (e.g., 562-985-####) can be made by dialing the phone number and conducting the call. There is no need to enter 1 before the area code as it is done automatically.
  • You can use the on-screen number pad or your device's physical keyboard to dial numbers.

International Calling

Note: International calls can be made through Teams as long as the caller has an appropriate international calling plan and if you are attempting to call certain countries. By default, CSULB calling plans only allow national calling.  Please submit a Telephone Service work order to add international access. if this service is required.  This is subject to additional monthly fees and will require ASM approval.

  • Since Teams follows the E.164 format, 011 is no longer required
  • Dial the country code then conduct the call.
  • Example: To call the Royal Albert Hall in London, dial +44 20 7589 8212
