After March 29, 2021, requesting specific software access will no longer be necessary. After this date, SVL will be restructured so that any student or faculty member can access any software available in the virtual lab environment by selecting from a pool of available virtual computers (desktop images), which will include:
- Computer Aided Design & Maps: this includes such software as ArcGIS, Autodesk, AutoCAD, and Revit
- Data Sequencing: this includes such software as Geneious, MEGA X, Morphoj
- General vLab: this is a plain image with Microsoft 2016, Notepad++, ImageJ, web browsers
- Math & Statistics: includes such software as Minitab, Orange, R, R-Studio, SAS, SPSS, Mathematica, MATLAB
- Programming Languages: includes such software as Eclipse IDE for Java Developers, Python, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio Professional
This screen shot displays how this new view will look, showing the five desktop virtual computer themes.
By hovering your cursor over the name of a desktop image, you will be presented with the option to view details, where you can then see a short list of sample software available in that desktop image.
Special note about college-specific software applications:
Some colleges provide access to specific software applications on a very limited basis, such as for specific courses:
- Keyshot is limited to College of Engineering and College of the Arts.
- SOLIDWORKS is limited to College of Engineering and College of the Arts.
- Stata/IC is limited to College of Liberal Arts.
- Vivado is limited to College of Engineering's Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
These applications will still require college-specific permissions through the current Service Request process. For those that have access to such college-specific software applications, they will see a sixth desktop image called "Limited Licensing" as shown below.
