This article provides instructions for sending a fax using a campus analog fax machine.
Sending a Fax
1. Load the Document
Place the document into the fax machine's document feeder.
Note: Follow the markings on the machine to ensure the pages are loaded in the correct orientation. If you are unsure, send a test page first.
2. Enter the Fax Number

On-Campus Fax Numbers -- Enter the campus fax 5-digit extension.

External Fax Numbers -- For all external fax numbers, including local 562 numbers, dial: 9 + Area Code + 7-Digit Fax Number
Examples:
- Local 562 fax number: 9-562-555-1234
- Long-distance fax number: 9-714-555-1234
3. Send the Fax
Press the Start, Fax, or Send button on the machine.
4. Wait for Confirmation
Allow the fax transmission to complete. Most fax machines will:
- Display a successful transmission message, or
- Print a transmission confirmation report
Troubleshooting
Unable to Send a Fax
- Verify the fax number was entered correctly.
- Confirm the number was dialed using the correct format:
- 9 + Area Code + 7-Digit Number for external destinations.
- Try sending to a different fax number to determine whether the issue is specific to one recipient.
Recipient Did Not Receive the Fax
- Confirm the destination fax number with the recipient.
- Ask the recipient to verify their fax machine or fax service is operational.
Fax Machine Problems
If the fax machine is not functioning properly:
- Check for paper jams, low toner, or error messages.
- Contact your department's technical support resource or copier support provider.
